The Siemens 6FC5357-0BA32-0AE1 is a Sinumerik 840D, 5-Axis Spindle Drive. The Sinumerik 840D digital control system is characterized by its openness, allowing the machine manufacturer and user to configure the system to their requirements. Usually this system is used for turning and milling. There are tools that can be used during the initial startup of the drive that allows for the user to input the drive configuration and assign drive parameters with standard data sets as determined by the motor and power section combination. Usually further functions can be performed which help with further optimization and diagnostics. These measuring functions are used to evaluate the important speed and position control loop quantiles, as well as to control the torque within its time and frequency range. Fourier analysis (FTT) is an integrated function on the drive that can my applied to analyze the mechanical characteristics of the control loop settings. This tool should be used if there is an unsteady current, speed, or position signal curves that are indicating problems with stability. It should also be used if only long rise times can be obtained in the speed loop.

A circularity test can also be used with the 6FC5357-0BA32-0AE1. This is used to analyze the contour accuracy at the quadrant transitions of circular contours by means of friction compensation. Measurement diagrams can be archived by file functions, which allow for the machine settings to be documented and allows for the facilitation of remote diagnostics if needed.
